Chaitra Navratri
चैत्र नवरात्रि
Nine nights of Goddess Durga — the divine mother
📖 The Story
Navratri means "nine nights" and celebrates the nine forms of Goddess Durga (Shakti). The festival commemorates the victory of Durga over the demon Mahishasura, who had been terrorising the heavens and the earth. When no god could defeat him, the divine feminine energy — Shakti — emerged as Durga. After nine nights of fierce battle, she slew Mahishasura on the tenth day (Dussehra). Each of the nine days is dedicated to a different form of the goddess.
🪔 Puja Vidhi
Set up a kalash (sacred pot) with mango leaves and coconut. Light an earthen lamp that burns for all nine days. Fast or eat saatvik food. Worship a different form of the goddess each day. On Ashtami or Navami, perform Kanya Puja — worship nine young girls as manifestations of the goddess.
